Knowing you, Knowing Me Dave September 20, 2013 Blogs, Knowing You Knowing Me We want to get to know those people involved in comedy a bit more and to share what they are doing with all of you out there. Today we have Maxine Jones. A woman doing great work to encourage people into local comedy clubs and does stand up herself. Who are you and what do you do? I’m Maxine Jones. I promote and perform comedy. Where? Clubs are in Blackrock, Stillorgan and Kill o’the Grange. Only know of the Wicked Wolf in Blackrock. Why’s that? Wicked Wolf has been going a couple of years and is fortnightly. The Stillorgan night is newer. It’s in the Orchard’s O-Bar on the last Thursday of the month. Next one is 26 September. The Kill o’the Grange club is at Baker’s Corner, near IADT. Launch night is Friday 27 September and it will also be monthly. Are the formats the same? Wicked Wolf is new act/material night with up to seven acts. Stillorgan Orchard has an opener and closer and two middle spots. Baker’s Corner has six experienced acts. Are the acts paid? Small payment to opener and closer at the Orchard. Some expenses at Baker’s Corner. Nothing at Wicked Wolf. Is it hard to get an audience? They’ve varied greatly. I think it takes years to build up a regular audience. Comedy in the suburbs is a challenge but I believe it will eventually pay off. And the comedians will be paid more? And the comedians will be paid more. Who has performed there?
