The Mire – Public asked not to pest Budget 2014 gardai for autographs

The public have been asked to refrain from asking gardaí policing Budget 2014 protests today for autographs.

Concerns have grown that eager fans may distract gardaí who are also household names from the world of entertainment from carrying out their duties.

“Obvously some serving members of the force like Twink, Linda Martin and, of course, Brendan O’Connor are very well known,” a garda press office spokesman said.

“Others are just beginning to make names for themselves in shows like Love/Hate and Fair City.”

“However, we would ask that you don’t treat them like celebrities. They are ordinary serving gardaí who happen to be stars.”
