The Valley of Newdale

The town of Newdale, Idaho sits nestled between two mountains in a picturesque valley. It is surrounded on all sides by a fast flowing, deep river. Newdale was a happy place filled with much laughter and a quality of life unsurpassed in all of Middle-Idaho. …All has not been well in Newdale recently.Wolves have always been a problem in Newdale,  usually only in the depths of Winter when the river freezes allowing wolves to cross. A suspected rockfall in the mountain passes high above Newdale has blocked the river at the source, exposing the river bed and leaving Newdale open to attack year round.

A local villager spoke to us about the situation. “Aye, tis been hard. Used to be only in the cold months, but now they come whenever the moon is waxed t’full. Oh, tis a cruel fate, we can do little against the wolves, every time they come they take livestock, fowl and unfortunate children who are astride after dark, I’ve had 4 young ones taken from me, their 18 siblings are only coming to terms with it now. Forsooth, what is it we are to do pray tell?”

"forebearance of doom"

“forebearance of doom”

In attempts to deal with the threat the wolves pose Newdale has poured all available resources into defence, constructing watch towers and employing locals to engage in patrols to fend off attacking wolves. A village elder said “Ay, tis a cruel fate to risk so many a young man, but what are we to do. If we do not try and stop the wolves they will come anyway and kill us in the night.Vile fiends !

Local Wizard

In a last ditch effort to help solve the problem Newdale’s residents, under guidance from their local Wizard have selected nine people to embark on an epic quest to unblock the source of the river. “We have a strong hero type, we have an elf type, we have another normal bloke, we have a wizard, now all we need is a dawrf and four children. We put ad’s in a few papers but no one seems to interested in climbing a mountain whilst being attacked by wolves…and of course we cant pay anyone because we spent all our money on defence and lessons in how to talk like you live in the middle ages. Some might question why we spent money to learn to talk like its the middle ages, but frankly, until you’ve been plauged by wolves you can’t really say how you’d react and at the time it seemed like the best course of action.”
