The London Irish Comedy Festival and Aisling Bea to host The Big Dishgo! fundraiser for its partner charity the London Irish Centre

The Big Dishgo London Irish Festival

The London Irish Comedy Festival  was co-founded in 2012 by Maria Schweppe and the London Irish Centre (LIC)  to showcase the very best of established and emerging Irish comedic talent from the UK and Ireland.

The aim of the Festival is to celebrate and showcase the wealth of established and emerging Irish comedic talent based in Ireland and the UK. The inaugural Festival was held in the London Irish Centre from 12 – 14 October 2012 and the 2nd Festival from 11 – 13 October 2013.

In March 2013 and March 2014, the Festival hosted a comedy tent in Trafalgar Square as part of the Mayor of London’s Official St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. Acts who have performed at the Festival include; Andrew Maxwell, Neil Delamere, PJ Gallagher, Barry Murphy, Maeve Higgins, David McSavage, Aisling Bea, Abandoman, Fred Cooke, Eleanor Tiernan, Reuben, Jarlath Regan, Rory O’ Hanlon, Willa White, Brendan Dempsey, Colm O’ Regan, John Lynn, Eric Lalor, The Nualas, Sharyn Hayden, Paddy Cullivan and John Colleary.

In 2014, the Festival hosted a series of Edinburgh Previews where comedians ‘road tested’ their shows before bringing them to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Line-up; John Lynn, Damian Clark, Andrew Ryan, Conor Drum, Danny O’ Brien, Foil, Arms & Hog, Gráinne Maguire, Jarlath Regan, Eleanor Tiernan and Chris Kent.

In July 2014, the Festival partnered with Tedfest London to run Toilet Duck London, a contest for new Irish comedians. The winner, Michael Stranney, will perform at the London Irish Comedy Festival in 2015.
