Saudi man arrested after boasting about sex on TV Dave July 27, 2009 Blogs Utterence of word “breasts” sparks protests A Saudi Arabian national has become the first person to be arrested under the new Blasphemy Bill signed into law by President McAleese this week. The man was arrested after making remarks about his sex life on RTEs Saturday Night with Miriam light entertainment program. The Saudi national who works as a doctor at Cork University Hospital was a guest on the program to discuss breast cancer awareness. The utterence of the word breast caused ripples of discontent in the studio crowd. A spokesperson for RTE, Irelands state broadcaster said after this incident RTE have issued new guidelines that prohibits the mentioning of specific bodyparts when discussing breast cancer. From now breast cancer will be refered to as Lady Cancer and prostate cancer will be refered to as Man cancer. Department of Justice press release A statement released by the Department of Justice said The program presents anomalies and deviancy in society that are unacceptable and immoral, and should be punished according to Shariah,the blasphemy legislation. It is wrong to host people on television to speak publicly about vice and issues against our religion. King of Saudi Arabia The King of Saudi Arabia has been drawn into the argument. He said Its only religion, why are people getting so upset? I dont like the idea of people being mocked for their beliefs but making it against the law to utter blasphemys in this day and age seems very archaic. Making legislation prohibiting someone from doing something that criticizes something they may or may not believe in just seems to create bad feelings between different sections of the community. I dont know, in Saudi Arabia we let people speak their minds about whatever they want. Ireland just seems repressive, now if youll excuse me Ive to go to a function. Were poking someones eyes out for only putting one L in Allah. Leaked photo Gardai are braced for an influx of blasphemers and have cordoned off meeting house square in the center of Dublin. When asked about the plans for meeting house square the Garda Press Office said youll find out soon enough. The leaked photo shown above appears to show Gardai dressed in Middle Eastern Police uniforms beating a man with reeds. The Garda Press Office would not comment on wether or not the closing of meeting house square and the leaked photos are linked. However Minister for Justice Dermot Aheren is thought to be pushing public flogging legislation through the Dail when it comes back off its holidays in 9 weeks time.
