Crowds enjoy Slayer at last years festival

Dromahair is braced for the biggest party in the history of Leitrim. The second annual “Sure isn’t it great to be in Dromahair” festival is due to commence tomorrow. Bands, theatre companies and street performers from all over the world will descend on the Leitrim village for two days of festivities celebrating all aspects of life in Dromahair.

Festival organizer Patrick Mooney: “There are festivals for everything, arts, music, theater why not tie them all together here in Dromahair and celebrate the place while we’re at it? We’ve got some fantastic acts this year, there really will be something for everyone.” The festival is designed to appeal to everyone and has had to contend with a bad reputation picked up last year when Declan Nerney’s headline performance lead to ugly scenes of crowd trouble.

Declan Nerney “no longer welcome in Dromahair”

“Yes, the Declan Nerney incident has taken a large effort to get past. We even petitioned the County Council to ban Declan Nerney from Dromahair altogether, which thankfully they did. He wont be back” said Mr.Mooney. “We don’t expect any trouble this year, we have some good high quality acts, real professionals, a mix of Irish and international acts”  Showband Big Tom and The Mainliners will headline the opening day of the festival supported by Daniel O’Donnell and U2 tribute band “Bono and the Josuha Tree”. On the second day Mick Flavin will headline with support from Foster and Allen.

Marxist hip hop duo Dead Prez will perform after mass on day two of the festival

The festival is eagerly anticipated in Dromahair, a representative for the Dromahair chamber of commerce said “We applaud Mr.Mooney in his desire to push forward with this festival. We feel it will be just the tonic to help us out of the recession.” Gardai are preparing to deal with crowds in excess of 100,000 people, local Garda Hank Doolin said “It’ll involve some over time on the part of the Gardai in Dromahair, we’re keeping the station open during our lunch hour and extending the opening hours of the station till 9pm, real Miami vice stuff”. The Leitrim Civil defence are on standby and Gardai from neighbouring jurisdictions have also been put on stand by to lend assistance if needed.

Crowds enjoy last years fest

There is a minority of people in Dromahair who are opposed to the festival taking place. “You saw it last year with Declan Nerney, we cant trust the rock and roll element. Yes it brings in money to the town but you have to ask what the real cost of it all is” said Mary Feeney from the anti-festival group “Citizens Against Festivals (C.A.F)”. “Last year my neighbour had her grass walked on by one of these yahoo’s from outside of the village, probably drugged out of their mind and thinking it was a great laugh. I feel sorry for them and their mothers for having them”. C.A.F lodged an official objection with the County Council about the festival this year, it was rejected out of hand, C.A.F plans to appeal to the High Court in order to prevent next years festival from occurring. “We may have failed this year, but it’s only made us more determined for next year.
