Week 2 & 3 – 2 for one deal Dave January 27, 2010 Blogs Week 2: Mastering the Rubix Cube I think everone has at least tried a rubix cube once. Picked it up for a few minutes, gotten frustarted and cursed, then put it back down. Its a crappy little thing really but its colourful and I like colours, I do! What I came to realise over this weeks training is that realistically your not gonna get anywhere unless you actually know the rules. Ive looked up the rules before and got pretty good at one side of the cube but never put enough time and effort into completing the whole thing in one sitting .without my notes in front of me. This week was my chance to prove I CAN DO IT! Unfortunately training to master the rubix cube is a bit boring. Its a bit too mathmatical for my liking. Lots of equations (or algorithms as we in the Rubix Cube industry call em). But this is MY year so I sat on my bed for hours on end, doing and redoing, until i got a bit quicker. I brought the cube with me in my handbag, took it out on the LUAS (to some very odd looks). In work I spent my spare time on it, a few guests caught me practicing, one looked disgusted, te other two were extremely drunk and proceeded to film me , whilst they shouted This.. this lady at the reception Shes coooool. Legend. Legend. Rubix Cube is finished, mazin. Deadly. So that was fun! I must look out for it on youtube! Its the end of the week now and can I do it? Sheesh, did you ever doubt me? Course not! Heres proof, its a shoddy film of me (in work) completing the rubix cube! Take that Erno Rubick! Take that! {youtube}y3wDvioSBxw{/youtube} ps. Apologies for the length of the video. But I didnt wanna edit it, for fear I would be acused of cheating, I sped it up a little but thats the best I can do with no knowledge whatsoever of movie editing, perhaps week 3 should be Get better at video recording and editing..You tool! Week 3: Balloon Modelling Here we are at the end of Week 3. This blog certainly is making January fly by for me. Balloon Modelling is something every child marvels upon, I remember being at parties when I was a child and someone would be there making balloon animals and it was magical. Where did the grown ups find these magic men? Surely these guys were famous? They had to be millionaires or sons of god or something, right? In my grown up years Ive met these magic men in the comedy clubs of Dublin. I mean no offence to my friends, but its not quite the glamour I thought it was gonna be. Making animals from balloons is a talent though. No matter what age the audience or who the magic men are, making a poodle from a balloon is always gonna put a smile on your face. Its damn impressive! So at the start of the week I enlisted the help of a friend who had recenty learned to do balloon poodles and swords. Poodles first, my first one had a big nose and small back llegs but it was DEFINITELY a poodle! Swords scare the crap out of you at first. They involve a tricky twist which makes the baloons look like theyre about to pop any second in your face. Once you work through that fear, youre all good. After about 15 mins of poodles and swords i decided to go solo on the mission and try make some other pieces. I dont mean to brag (really I do!) but I was a natural. After some thinkin I figured out a flower and a shamrock. Paddys Day 2010, Im sellin them for 2 each and I am certain they will sell! Anyways, to show off this weeks achievements I have included a few stills and a slide show of people in pubs enjoying my creations .Enjoy! Week 3: Balloon Modelling ..YUSSSSS!!!! Tweet
